Every year the Social Security Administration issues a publication laying out the Schedule of Social Security payments for the year. This document details the payment dates for:
- Social Security payments
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments
- Payments of Social Security Benefits prior to May 1997
- Payments for those receiving both Social Security and SSI.
Beneficiaries can expect payments via direct deposit or their Direct Express® card on these payment dates. Non-Direct Express® or direct deposit beneficiaries, who still receive paper checks, are advised to wait three additional mailing days before contacting the Social Security Administration if they have not received their check.
Most federal benefits are available through Direct Express® (see A Growing Program). Forty-nine percent of cardholders receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), with Social Security Retirement (SSA) benefits at about the same level at 48 percent. Veterans and other benefit payments comprise three percent of the total.
